Learn More About Ultrasounds
What is an Ultrasound?

An ultrasound is an imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of the inside of your body. It’s commonly used to look at soft tissues like organs, blood vessels, and muscles.

Unlike other imaging tests, ultrasounds don’t use radiation. That means this test is a safe option for at-risk patients like children or pregnant mothers. But it also has limitations – sound waves don’t travel well through air or bone.

An ultrasound is often used to check on babies during pregnancy. But it can also help your doctor determine the cause of pain, swelling, or infection. It’s a non-invasive way to understand more about your health.

The Benefits of Ultrasounds

Ultrasounds provide many benefits that help your doctor diagnose and manage your medical condition, such as:

  • Find problems before they become serious, like detecting issues with blood flow.
  • Provide clear images of internal structures for an accurate diagnosis.
  • Guide certain treatments or precise procedures by showing real-time images.

Ultrasounds provide important and detailed information about your health. This helps your doctor make better decisions about your treatment plan.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

We understand you might feel nervous before your appointment, especially if you’re worried about the results. But our team is here to guide you through the process.

An ultrasound is quick and painless. It usually takes 30 minutes to one hour to complete. But the exact time can vary depending on the complexity of your medical condition or the number of images your doctor needs.

Here’s what will happen during your ultrasound:

You’ll check in at the front desk when you arrive and fill out any necessary paperwork.

Our staff will explain the procedure and answer your questions. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.

A technician will apply a special gel to the area of your body being examined. This gel helps the ultrasound probe make better contact with your skin.

The technician will move a small device over your skin. This device is called a transducer. It sends sound waves into your body and captures the returning echoes to create real-time images.

The images are displayed on a monitor and recorded for our radiologist to review. The technician may ask you to change positions to get better pictures.

After the scan, the technician will clean off the gel, and you can get dressed. Our radiologist will review the images and send a report to your doctor.

Our goal is to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. If you have any questions about what to expect, don’t hesitate to ask our staff. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
