Learn More About MRI Imaging
What is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe and non-invasive way to look inside your body. It uses strong magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of your organs and tissues.

MRI imaging is used to diagnose and monitor various health conditions like injuries, tumors, and diseases. These scans are particularly helpful for examining your:

  • Brain
  • Spinal cord
  • Soft tissues
  • Internal organs
  • Nerves
  • Blood vessels and arteries

By providing clear images, MRI imaging can help your doctor make accurate diagnoses and recommend the best treatment plan for you.

Types of MRI Machines

At Memorial MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers, we have a variety of MRI machines to suit different patient needs. Our machines provide high-quality images while making sure you’re comfortable during the scan.

Some of the unique MRI machines we use are:

  • Open MRI – This machine is ideal if you feel claustrophobic or uncomfortable in a traditional machine. It provides a more open experience because the machine is only enclosed on two sides. Because it’s more spacious, this MRI machine can also accommodate larger body types.
  • Upright MRI – This machine can be configured in multiple positions so you feel comfortable during your MRI imaging scan. You can sit or stand because the machine is only enclosed on three sides. This is especially useful if you have difficulty or discomfort lying down.
  • Highfield MRI – This machine has a stronger magnetic field than a traditional MRI machine. So it’s perfect for detailed scans that require a higher resolution and more precision. It also produces faster scans than a traditional machine because of the stronger magnetic field.
  • 3.0T Wide Bore MRI – This machine has the strongest magnetic field of all MRI imaging machines. It creates extremely clear and detailed images, which leads to more accurate diagnoses. This machine also produces faster scans than a traditional machine because of its stronger magnetic field.

Each of these MRI imaging machines offers specific benefits that help you feel more comfortable during the scan. They also help your doctor determine a more accurate diagnosis of your medical condition.

The Benefits of MRI Imaging

An MRI scan shows detailed pictures of your brain, spine, joints, and other areas. This helps your doctor diagnose conditions like multiple sclerosis, brain injuries, and joint problems.

This scan can also detect tumors, blood vessel diseases, and other serious conditions. After getting an MRI, your doctor can understand what’s happening inside your body and develop the treatment you need.

An MRI imaging test is an important step in your healthcare journey because it:

  • Is a non-invasive solution that doesn’t involve surgery or needles.
  • Provides detailed images that can detect even small abnormalities.
  • Detects diseases and conditions early, which leads to better results.
  • Examines almost any part of the body, from the brain to the joints.
  • Helps you avoid exposure to radiation, which makes it safer to use multiple times.

With an MRI imaging test, you and your doctor can make informed decisions about your healthcare.

Learn More About Whole Body MRIs

A Whole Body MRI (WB-MRI) provides detailed images of your entire body in a single scan. Just like a traditional MRI, this scan doesn’t use harmful radiation – so it’s a safe and non-invasive test.

With a traditional MRI scan, your doctor may only be able to see one or two areas of your body, such as your abdomen or leg. But with a Whole Body MRI, the scan captures images of all your tissues, organs, and body systems at the same time. This gives your doctor an overview of how your entire body functions.

Whole Body MRIs are highly effective when it comes to detecting and monitoring conditions in multiple areas of your body, such as tumors or degenerative diseases. It helps with early diagnosis and developing treatment plans. It’s also recommended as a cancer screening tool for patients with a family history or predisposition to certain syndromes.¹

If you’d like to detect cancer early – or any other conditions – in your body, we recommend scheduling an appointment for a Whole Body MRI. Find peace of mind in knowing that you’re taking the best care of your body that you possibly can.

For Whole Body MRIs, we partner with My Simple Scan – a company devoted to using state-of-the-art technology for early detection of cancer and other potential problems. You can participate in their cancer screening study without a physician’s order and get the peace of mind you’re searching for!

What to Expect During Your Appointment

We understand you might feel nervous before your appointment, especially if you’re worried about the results. But our team is here to guide you through the process.

An MRI scan is safe, non-invasive, and painless. It usually takes 15 minutes to one hour to complete. But the exact time can vary depending on the complexity of your medical condition or the number of images your doctor needs.

Here’s what will happen during your MRI imaging scan:

You’ll check in at the front desk when you arrive and fill out any necessary paperwork.

Our staff will explain the procedure and answer your questions. You’ll be asked to change into a hospital gown and remove any metal objects like jewelry.

You’ll lie down on a sliding table. A technician will help position you correctly and make sure you’re comfortable. We can also provide earplugs or headphones if you don’t like how loud the machine sounds.

The table will slide into the MRI imaging machine and take pictures of your body. During the scan, you can listen to music and communicate with the technician. It’s important to lie as still as possible so the images aren’t blurry. You might be asked to hold your breath for short periods.

After the scan, you can change back into your clothes and head home. Our radiologist will review the images and send a report to your doctor.

Our goal is to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. If you have any questions about what to expect, don’t hesitate to ask our staff. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
